My Story
I graduated from Texas A&M in 2006 (WHOOP!), and got my Master’s in counseling at University of Houston-Clear Lake in 2011. With more than 15 years of professional experience, I have a passion for helping kids, parents and families find their best selves. I have worked in residential treatment facilities for children with high emotional needs as well as multiple disabilities. I have also worked as a student support counselor in a charter school district and a school-based counselor for two public school districts in the Houston area. I have worked with several community agencies providing free services to children from all backgrounds. Finally, I am here at Constellation Counseling and Consulting, pulling together all of these experiences to provide the best support possible to children and families.
All of my experience centers on children, adolescents, and families. I just like kids! I love getting to meet new clients where they are and learn how they think and see the world. Over the years, I have gained specific training in providing services to young people with a history of trauma (including Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Trauma-Grief Component Therapy for Adolescents). More recently, I have wanted to broaden my services to include the youngest children through Play Therapy. I have received extensive training in play therapy, and I am actively working toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). It is so exciting to bring mental health services to this uniquely vulnerable (and fun!) population. Whether I’m sitting on the floor with a child in a play therapy session or guiding a teen building healthy coping skills, my goal is always to create a safe, empowering space where growth and healing can happen.
I have experience with children and teens with ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Psychosis, Self-injurious behaviors, LGBTQ+, Autism, and Developmental Disabilities. Beyond the labels, I have talked to clients experiencing isolation, disability, bullying, thoughts of suicide, abuse, divorce, removal from families, reunification with families, difficulty making friends, sleep problems and nightmares, school stressors, medical diagnoses, fears of all kinds, and so much more.In my personal life, I have been married for 17 years and have 6 children, 5 of whom joined our family through adoption (through the CPS system). I have multiple children with diagnoses and disabilities, which has given me an intimate understanding of what families experience. Because of this, I have a unique interest in including young people experiencing foster care and adoption as well as disability in the scope of my work. I look forward to seeing how I can best serve your child and family!
